Happy - Experiencing the effect of favorable fortune; having the feeling arising from the consciousness of well-being or of enjoyment; enjoying good of any kind, as peace, tranquility, comfort; contented; joyous.
Merry - Laughingly gay; overflowing with good humor and good spirits; jovial; inclined to laughter or play; sportive.
Of course we are, or at least should be happy that Jesus rose from the dead. But lets also be merry about it! Overflowing with good humor and good spirits! Because He is the reason why we have a chance to spend an eternity with him in a place far better than any other. All the Easter bunnies, Easter bunny chocolate, and old hairy men in Easter bunny suits carrying around chicken eggs (which I never understood) may distract us from the real reason Easter is a world holiday. Even though a person may die physically, spiritually they will always have that relationship with God. How is this possible? Because the tomb is empty. Jesus is alive. We as believers have no reason to fear death. It is no longer the end.
This morning my big buff bald pastor used Nutgrass as an example of how a believer should act.
Nutgrass - a plant with a root about one or two feet deep in the ground with something like a nut at the end. It is hard to control/get rid of and is very persistent in growing. It can even grow through concrete.
Believers, don't quit what you're doing. Spread the word! The tomb is empty and you have the victory!
Our Christmas clock just sang it's hourly song.. ♪♫Jingle bells, Jingle bells, Jingle all the way. Oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh. HEY!♪♫
Yeah, so anyway, get out there and enjoy this Easter more than any other! Because HE IS RISEN! And try to say "NO!" to temptation when you have the urge to steal an Easter egg full of candy from a helpless toddler even though he isn't looking. Okay?
Every Easter my family would have an Easter egg hunt when we were younger. Well Jeremiah still has a year or two to go so today he really wanted to have one and kept begging mom. She ended up finding old plastic Easter eggs and hid them in our front yard. Although, since she's unfortunately going all healthy on us, she didn't fill them up with candy. Instead, my mother filled Easter eggs up with.. wait for it.. MONEY! Only a few eggs had money though. The rest were useless empty plastic Easter eggs that were really hard to juggle with.
Anyway, Jeremiah was ready to run but wanted somebody to hunt with (more like he wanted someone play with him so he can attempt to steal all the eggs that the other person spots). Mom kinda talked me into it. Besides, I stopped hunting for eggs only a couple years ago. ;) So I got my pink softball helmet (Easter baskets don't hold very much.. I couldn't find one anyway) and headed to the first egg. I opened to see if my mom had put anything in it. And there it was. A whole dollar bill. I blinked. Then blinked again. Then again. I just kept blinking. Since then, I've blinked several thousand times. So after that I gracefully skipped around (quickly walking but still pretending that I wasn't having fun and was too old for these things while yelling at Jeremiah every time he ran faster than me and picked one up even though I saw it first) picking up every egg that I just happened to run into. I ended up finding more eggs than Jeremiah (Yep. It's a skill of mine. I always got more than my friends growing up. Except once I think it was Emelie who beat me by one or two eggs. So I politely asked her to give me the ones she didn't want and then I had more eggs than her.) but he got $7 when I only got $2!
Life just isn't fair.
Not even on Easter.
